Gun Inventory iOS App Review

Gun Inventory iOS App Review

Quick Review

Gun Inventory does what it says it will do. It has one screen to enter a few details about a weapon.
Compared to Gun Log SPC, Gun Inventory lacks many features just in the Weapon information alone and does not store ammunition, accessories, or firing session information at this time.

Please read the review for the details.

Description
Gun Inventory is the easiest way to keep track of your firearms in case of loss, theft, or any other situations in which you would need the serial numbers, pictures, or calibers of every firearm you own.

All you have to do is fill out the information such as Finish, Barrel Length, Make, Model, Serial Number, and any other information you feel necessary in identifying the firearm. After you save your guns you can see them all laid out in an easy to navigate list of all the guns you own and the best part is that you will always have that list with you!

If you ever want to export this information it's as easy as a press of a button and you can have all that information not only on your apple device but any other device or computer you want.

Functionality

Entering a Firearm

Tap the "+" button.

Scroll down to see what we can enter...

Back to the top now, let's enter the data. You have to enter a serial number. If you do not you get an error saying there is no data!

Add a picture.

Don't forget to hit the "Save" button at the top right. I didn't the first time. If you do not it will not prompt you to save your data and it will be lost.

Back at the main screen.

Select the new entry and let's see what we have. You can tap "Edit" to edit the entry.

In the Edit view you can see your entry. Notice you can not edit the serial number.

Comparison

Here is a feature matrix for Gun Inventory and the corresponding "Weapons" tab of Gun Log SPC.

I do not contrast the details of the "Ammo", "Sessions", "Accessories" and "Reports" areas in Gun Log or Gun Log SPC. Gun Inventory's features are matched by the "Weapons" area of Gun Log SPC.

Gun Inventory can export each gun individually. Gun Log SPC has four weapon reports just in the Weapons area.

In the Report area of  Gun Log SPC there are these additional "Weapons Reports":
    ◦    Failures by Weapon
    ◦    Firing Sets by Weapon
    ◦    Firing Sets for Accuracy by Weapon
    ◦    Firing Sets for Grouping by Weapon
    ◦    Rounds Fired by Weapon

Conclusion

Gun Inventory does what is claimed.

Compared to  Gun Log SPC Gun Inventory has fewer features and less functionality.

Thank you.

Reporting

Gun Log SPC excels in reporting. Almost every view can generate some type of report. You can generate expense reports, range reports, group size reports, failure reports, and many more.

Here are two real world reports from my own data. This is not "made up" data, but actual data from two years of range reports.

Here is a group size report for a CZ 85B.

Here is a failures report sorted by ammunition maker.
